Interest world-wide in the provision of new observational astro­ nomical facilities in the form of ground-based optical telescopes of large aperture has never been higher than exists at present. The benefits to be gained from increased aperture size, however, are only utilised effectively if efficient instrumentation is also available. There have been significant improvements recently in this area, part­ icularly in detector technology and data handling as well as in optical design, so that systems which are currently being developed have the capability of being vastly more powerful in terms of the efficient use of photons than those which existed only 5 years ago. The rationale for the decision by Commission 9 of the International Astronomical Union to hold IAU Colloquium 67, therefore, was to obtain reports on these developments with the emphasis placed upon overall efficiency of the complete observational system - from telescope aperture right through to detector output. A fitting venue for the meeting was the site of the 6 metre BTA (Bolshoi Azimuth Telescope) at Zelenchukskaya in the Caucasus mount­ ains, USSR. The BTA is operated by the Special Astrophysical Observatory located at Nizhnij Arkhyz, a few kilometres from the telescope itself.

Beauville surfaces are a class of rigid regular surfaces of general type, which can be described in a purely algebraic combinatoric way. The notion of Beauville surface was introduced by Fabrizio Catanese in 2000 and after the first systematic study of these surfaces by Ingrid Bauer, Fabrizio Catanese and Fritz Grunewald, there has been an increasing interest in the subject.

English summary: What is a protestant Sunday service? Alexander Deeg dares to ask this apparently simple question and to offer a protestant fundamental liturgy. The problem of combining theological insights with aesthetical reflections is discerned already in Luther's liturgical works and has been since then the ongoing signature of protestant liturgics. An abductive epistemological method helps to bridge this gap and to prevent fundamental liturgical reflections from mere deductive or inductive methods. Historical insights, perceptions in Judaism, in Catholic liturgy and especially in current Cultural Studies lead the author to the thesis that protestant Sunday service is WortKult, the intertwined connection of different ways of enacting the Word in the context of liturgical ritual. Ritual is the permanent form of the Word, the Word remains the permanent critique of the ritual. - Theoretical reflections lead to practical ideas for protestant Sunday services. German text. Alexander Deeg nimmt sich angesichts gegenwartiger Herausforderungen in der evangelischen Gottesdienstlandschaft dieser Frage an und beantwortet sie so, dass theologische und asthetische Uberlegungen bestandig ineinander greifen. Damit schliesst Deeg eine Lucke in der liturgischen Diskussion, in der sich fundamentalliturgische Uberlegungen derzeit kaum greifen lassen. Methodisch wahlt sie ein abduktives Verfahren, das die Einseitigkeit einer blossen Ableitung des Gottesdienstes aus theologischen Vorgaben (Deduktion) ebenso hinter sich lasst wie die Einseitigkeit einer Entwicklung des Gottesdienstes aus empirischen Wahrnehmungen (Induktion). Inhaltlich zeigt der Autor, dass evangelischer Gottesdienst seit seinen Anfangen vor der Aufgabe einer liturgischen Inszenierung des ausseren Wortes steht. In historischen (vier ausgewahlte Stationen der Geschichte des evangelischen Gottesdienstes), komparatistischen (Judentum und Katholizismus) und kulturwissenschaftlichen Erkundungen (zu Subjekt, Inszenierung und Dramaturgie) geht die Untersuchung dem Wechselspiel von Wort und Kult nach und profiliert den evangelischen Gottesdienst pointiert als WortKult: Der Kult gibt dem Wort seine Gestalt, das Wort kritisiert und belebt den Kult.
